I guess for years, Roscoe has been reading about the Nazca or Nasca lines. The Nazca’s were an indigenous tribe living on the coast of Peru. From 200 years BC. To 800 years AD, they resided on the west coast of the Pacific in land which is now Peruvian. It is near the Andes Mountains. They constructed drawings of a lizard, spider, flower, astronaut, and other things. They also created huge lines and trapezoidal figures. No one is quite sure what they mean. They were’t really seen until the 1940’s when WWII pilots flew over the area and saw the lines and designs. The Nazca’s dug about 6 inches deep into the ground and about 15 inches wide. They hit limestone/ chalk and drew the figures. The limestone solidified due to the mist and thus the drawings became more or less permanent. While a scientist recreated the drawings using the tools that the Nazca’s had at hand, the purpose of the drawings is still a mystery. Really the only way you can see them is to fly over them.
We purchased the trip and took an hour bus ride to Pisco, Peru’s airport. It’s a modern airport with no flights other than the scenic tours of the lines. Pisco was hit with a severe earthquake 15 years ago and the town has not been rebuilt. The people have no money and there seems to be no government plan to help them rebuild. The flight to the lines takes about 30 minutes. Everyone has to be weighed before getting on the plane. You are then seated according to weight. I haven’t weighed since I got on the ship….thank god it was in kilograms. I weighed 58kg 👍. You fly to the lines and then you spend 30 minutes trying not to throw up as the pilot dips and swirls. Every person has a window seat and due to weight distribution, Roscoe and I were not seated together! I’ll post pictures for you to see.

A map we were given at the airport.

Due to weight distribution, I was seated in the last seat and Roscoe was closer to the front!

The Spider. These lines are over 1500 years old and are vulnerable to people and weather.

The flower….duh!

The spiral and lines going off in directions.

The whale.
we have more pictures but WiFi is spotty this morning. We’re nearing Easter Island. So we’re deep into the Pacific Ocean.

Wow! That looks very exciting 🤗 I’m not a fan of smaller planes, but I’m sure I’d do it to see that.
