When we got back to Salerno it was 1:00. Roscoe naively asked me if I wanted to go to the ship for lunch before going to the cathedral. Now he knows me better than that! Even thought it was 98 degrees and we had walked for 2 hours in the sun, I wasn’t about to eat ship food when I could eat Italian food in ITALY!! So we trudged upward and onward. I felt bad for him but not bad enough to turn around. We walked the 15 minutes into town and found a nice little restaurant close to the Duomo. Boy am I glad I insisted. We ordered a huge bottle of water, with gas….bubbles, a caprese salad and a pizza. Let me just say, the pizza was good and we really enjoyed it, but the caprese with hot focaccia, was out of this world! The area is known for its tomatoes and his buffalo mozzarella. Neither disappointed. This was the best food I’ve had so far on this trip.

We ate the entire salad.

Wood fired pizza….ricotta, mozzarella, mushrooms, spicy meat and 2 different kinds of tomatoes. Excellent!
