We’ve all seen the old movie, Mutiny on the Bounty. Marlon Brando played first mate, Fletcher Christian who organized the mutiny of the Bounty against Captain Bligh in 1787. After the Mutiny, Bligh and his men, who had been put off the Bounty, sailed 4000 miles in a 23 foot open boat to reach safety. Christian and his men, along with 20 kidnapped Tahitians, ended up at Pitcairn Island. Almost all of the men, including Christian, were dead within 5 years. One mutineer, John Adams, remained alive. The only town is called Adamstown. It has a bar called “Oh Dear”, the supposedly last words of Fletcher Christian who was stabbed to death and a pizzeria, and a hair salon (Hair today gone tomorrow). It has no airport or pier. A boat with supplies comes about 6 times a year. It has one paved road which is about 5 miles long. The road was called, ‘Difficult way up’.

Today, 47 descendants of the mutineers still reside on Pitcairn. The island is the size of NYC ‘s Central Park. We sailed around it today. If you want to move there, they’re giving away free land….just shoot me!
