Not Mykonos….Messina

We were supposed to go to Mykonos, Greece, but we didn’t! Because of a delay with the generators last week, we ended up a day behind in our schedule. We therefore skipped Mykonos and instead spent the afternoon in a Messina, Sicily. Since we had never been to Sicily but had been to Mykonos, that worked out just fine for us. We didn’t arrive until 3pm…..I have to stop writing now to watch us leave port. I’ll tell you more later.

The Duomo Messina is the largest church in Messina and has an astrological clock. We didn’t go inside as there was a wedding about to take place. We did talk with the groom who was very excited. We got to Messina at 3 on a Saturday afternoon. Everything ( all stores and restaurants and sites) was closed until after 4. We walked the streets and looked at architecture. We found a small patisserie open and had a coffee and a cannoli. I bought a magnet ( ok 2) and we decided to find a restaurant for dinner before heading back to the ship. According to Yelp, a number of restaurants were open. We walked to 3 of them….none opened until 7:30. It was only 5:30….we finally found a place that had wine, fries and pizetti. By that time, we would have eaten anything. So we had a 🍷 and a pizetti, which was sort of a flatbread pizza, folded in half. Not my best dinner but any port in a storm….I’m sure Messina is lovely but today was not the day to see it. Tomorrow we’re off to Salerno and the Herculaneum.

The bridal limousine.

Wow, the food looks delicious.. This is your best trip yet!
