Newfoundland Labrador, Canada August 8,2023

Today we docked in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. A cute little town of 20,000. We walked uptown, went to an ATM for Canadian money and walked a trail. We then met a local who suggested that we try Mudder’s for lunch and if we don’t care about our arteries, eat a “Mudder‘s Mess”. So that’s what we did. Pictures will follow!

Very kind people, giving away free maps of the town. They ran a free shuttle bus but we chose to walk. They also gave us free luggage tags. We both got one for our backpacks. And $5 Canadian for a magnet!

We did a 1.5 mile walk through the park. It was a good day to be out in the sunshine. After Greenland and the Arctic Circle, Canada seemed downright balmy.

Nature will find a way to survive.

Salmon spawn in the river. They travel over 300 miles in the Atlantic Ocean to lay their eggs in the river.

Mudder’s Mess. French fries, stuffing, hamburger meat, onions, cheese and gravy. I literally had to lie down after eating some. But it hit all the right notes, thanksgiving in a takeout bowl!

Small towns are the same everywhere. The people are generally kind and glad to see you. Crafts are often sold in the village and there is always a welcoming church. We try to eat locally and see something that the citizens want us to see. Our next stop is Quebec. We have a private tour that day. And I hope to eat some excellent French food! However, the weather is looking like rain….but we will persevere. Tomorrow is a sea day and we’re having dinner with Stan and Jacquelyn from Arizona. We’re nearing New York City where we will overnight and then begin our 4th and final leg of the cruise.
