I know you’ve all been waiting….it took us 6 days to arrive at Komodo National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. We had a 2 hour tour, walking through the park and saw tons of butterflies, wild orchids, and yes, Komodo dragons. There are 1700 in the park and they’re really ugly. Descended from dinosaurs, they’re around 200 pounds and are very prehistoric looking. They have venom that causes blood to fail to coagulate. They kill by biting their prey one time and then waiting for it to bleed out. They can smell prey as far as 5 kilometers away and once they bite it, they don’t chase it, they just wait for it to die and then follow the scent. They eat the entire animal, bones and all. Then lie about letting the prey digest in their intestines. Whew…..
