Duomo Salerno

After returning to Salerno, we walked into town for lunch and a visit to the Duomo (cathedral) Salerno. It is a beautiful cathedral and its claim to fame is that it houses the remains of St. Matthew…..you know the one, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John. Yes that Matthew.

The altar and The crypt.

We were already in the “basement”. But the actual crypt is buried below the altar. When you look through the glass, you can see the stonework. The church is absolutely magnificent. Frescos adorn the walls and ceiling.
