Dubai, Deja Vu

We overnighted in Dubai so we had a second day here. Last time we were here, we went to the top of the Burg Kalifa, as you all know, it is the tallest structure in the world And we spent a day in Abu Dhabi. This time, on our second day, we decided to go to the new museum of the future. The building is quite unique. We also decided to take the metro there. We paid about $16 to ride in the gold car. That’s the first class of the metro. Our only mistake was on the first ride, we got in what we thought was the gold car and after riding 2/3 stops, I noticed that it was the women and children‘s car. No men are allowed in it and there sat Roscoe. Luckily we weren’t “caught” and we got out of the car at the next stop.

We went to the Dubai mall and then we went to the Museum. After that, we went to the Mall of the Emirates for lunch. By that time, it was 4 pm. We decided to ride the metro to the end of he red line just to see the city. The metro is clean, and air conditioned. They have above ground ( high) walkways that are clean and air conditioned that lead to the malls etc. Did I tell you it was 109 degrees. Hot is not the word. It was so hot that to step outside was to be in an immediate sauna. My sunglasses immediately fogged up. All of the metros have above ground walkways to the malls etc. our guide from the night before told us that the citizens don’t consider t hot until it reaches 45 degrees C. That’s about 115 F. Let me just say it is hot! It is also very hazy.

Dubai has the most unique architecture. Everywhere you look there are unique buildings. We got back to the ship around 7 pm and we were exhausted. My hips and back were so sore I could barely walk. I don’t think I’m getting old until I have a day like today. We just can’t physically do what we used to be able to do. It irritates me to no end, but other than taking Tylenol, I don’t know what to do about it. Anyway, we had a fun day and the last thing we did, was spend our dinars on beach bags at the port for Mary and Rebecca. Thank God the port store had them and was open because there was no way I could venture out into the city again.

We left Dubai around 10:30pm and now we have 6 days at sea. We need the rest. It was good to be back with our trivia “team”. We missed 4 question this morning. Who knows what the first 3D Disney/ Pixar film to open Cannes was? No cheating…..you can’t use your phone!

The Museum of the Future! Declared to be the most beautiful building in the world. While interesting, it would not be my choice.
