We arrived in Civitavecchia, Italy this morning at 6am. We left the ship at 7:30 and caught the train to Rome. We got to Rome around 9:15 and got on a hop on hop off bus. We had a restaurant reservation at 12:30 at Con Cucina ROSCIOLI. I made the reservation 6 months ago as this restaurant is rated in the top ten in Rome for carbonara. It was 99 degrees…..I kid you not….and the city was full of tourists. We rode the bus; walked some; and had lunch. We then took the train back to the port. I’m going to share some pictures of what we saw and did and then share a little story of what traveling like we do, involves.

Roscoe taking a picture. He does this everywhere we go and I have to insist he get in a photo every once in awhile.

The Largo di Torre Argentina. This is where Caesar was stabbed and murdered. There were 4 temples here. Roman ruins are everywhere you look. We were just walking to lunch and there is was.

The obligatory picture of the Colosseum.

The Tiber. Last time we stayed in the trastavere area, which literally means, across the Tiber.

I have seen these markers in Budapest and Amsterdam. I had never noticed them in Rome. A reminder to never forget! Qui avitaba means “here he lived”

Carbonara And bread. Oh my!

pasta amatrciana

Circus Maximus. Looks like they’re getting ready for a concert.

The Big Red Bus.
now just a quick reality check. It’s not all fun and games. I wrote 5 paragraphs on what it took mentally and physically to get to Rome and back to the ship. For some reason, it all disappeared. So you’re all spared that. Because it was way too tedious to repeat. Just know that it takes lots of planning, a huge physical and mental effort to travel where you can’t speak the language! But we would not stop traveling for the world. We love it and seeing places we haven’t seen and meeting new people , sharing stories and cultures, makes it all worth it.
